Hi, I'm new to the whole certification process etc, I'm hoping someone can answer a few questions for me. My latest project is a toyota surf that I'm putting a 4L V8 engine in and then I'm throwing out the body and putting on a Xtra cab hilux cab. Problem is the surf chassis is around 300mm shorter than the chassis the cab came off,and the mounts are in different places. the ute has 4 mounting points between the front and rear wheels and the surf has six. So I decided to get around the mount problem by cutting out the floor of the ute cab and weld in a surf floor, with the mounts attached. This also means that the floor will clear the chassis where it rises 300mm earlier on the surf chassis. So what I want to know is, can I do the welding myself, with it being structural, or does it have to be done by a certified welder/panelbeater? Also can I do seatbelt and seat mounts myself? Any answers are appreciated, cheers.

Hi Andrew
Welding: Yes, you can do the welding yourself; the first thing you should do though is contact an LVV Certifier. There is a process they use for checking that your welding is up to scratch - doing this can prevent hold-ups or issues when it's time for your vehicles final inspection.
Seat belt anchorages: Yes, you can install your own seat belt anchorages. Just make sure that you understand the requirements in the LVV Standard before you get started. If you're unsure about the positioning, size, or anything else, you should contact an LVV Certifier for advice.
There is also the body swap which will need to be addressed before you have it LVV Certified. As the vehicle will have two identifiers associated to it (body and chassis each have an identification), one will need to be canceled, and the other one will need to be updated with the new details. This can be done at a VTNZ, VINZ, or AA Te=sting station. LVVTA check that this process has been completed prior to manufacturing the cert plate.
I hope this helps
