 Year on Licensing Sticker
« Thread Started on Feb 20, 2012, 11:35am »

Hi, this is a beauropratic question and not a technical one.

Have finally achieved the Certification plate which correctly shows the vehicle year as 1979. I used the vehicle in UK and have paperwork (old MOT's etc) to support that fact.

All compliance paperwork says 1979 as does the UK Export certificate. The MR2A issued here also says "1979 LVVTA Cobra".

However, the License sticker says "2012 LVVTA Cobra".

Mr Plod "invited" me to stop on the very first outing in the w/e and after assuring me that he was really only interested in the car and not my sedate driving methods, pointed out that the vehicle is incorrectly registered. He says it should show "1979 LVVTA Cobra" on the sticker. He also checked on the computer and advised that that shows it to have never been used overseas (apparently there is a box that says "Used overseas before import?").

Looking at all other vehicles I own, they all have their year of manufacture on their sticker and not their year of being first registered in NZ.

I'd be interested in comments about which is correct as there are obviously issues further down the road wrt the 40 year reduced licensing rates. There may also be issues wrt classic car racing etc should I choose to participate in any of those. In addition, I can see numerous argument arising where 'efficient' WOF Inspectors insist that as it's a 2012 vehicle, it needs to meet the 2012 exhaust emission standards.

Hi there. It does sound like this needs to be sorted out - it should have been done by the TSDA when it was going through the entry compliance process.

If you give me a call on (04) 238 4343 I'll help to get this underway for you.

Cheers, Justin

Thanks Justin, many phone calls later and many discussions and protracted forms completed later, it seems to have been resolved. Seems that there's a glitch in the LTSA software that won't allow the correct date to be input unless the field saying "has this vehicle been registered overseas" is entered as 'y'. Thanks for your advice. Cheers Owen
