Hello from Washington state USA. My Kiwi wife and I hope to be moving to New Zealand soon, and will be shipping our 1965 Chevrolet motor home over. At present, I only have one question and that concerns the wheels. It has what we call here "split rims". In other words, there is the main wheel, then there is a removable outside ring which holds the wheel/tire together when assembled. I have been told it is no problem finding tire shop technicians to work with these, but is it ok to import and operate a vehicle with these heavy duty wheels? I can take a picture and post it, if necessary. Thank you very much, Joe Chasse Ocean Park, Wa, USA joetruck@gmail.com I found a picture - of course mine are not damaged like this one :

Hi Joe As far as I can tell you'll have no problems with the split-rims. Generally however, vehicles with split rims are classed as 'heavy' vehicles here in NZ, and therefore generally don't come under the LVV system. This is determined by the vehicle's GMV rating, given by the manufacturer. Your best source of information regarding this is from the Land Transport NZ website - www.landtransport.govt.nz where they have all of the info required on importing a vehicle. I hope this helps. Thank you Justin. I have, indeed, been to the Landtransport website and made copies of the necessary information, and pored thru this forum, and others, so expect few glitches upon unloading of my baby truck from the ship. Next item on the agenda is to get this home sold, so we can load the old truck onto a ship and be on our way!
