Hi there, I recently imported a 1974 Datsun 260z from the U.S that had been restored. . .However the repairs were poorly done and has been flagged for rust The original rails/framework underneath were poorly made to begin with so my question is, how do I go about compliance/cert with new chassis rails and also converted to later model Nissan subframes out of a R32 skyline, is this possible? It will be fabricated out of both 35/65 RHS and 60x60 SHS. During this, I will also be converting to a RB30 single cam turbo. Does the car have to be OEM spec for compliance? Should probably mention that I have up to date welding tickets for the positions that would be required. Thanks

Tricky situation. If the vehicle has been "flagged" by NZTA as requiring rust repairs, then you are going to need to work with a repair certifier to establish what they will require you to do, before they will release your vehicle from requiring a repair cert. So you will end up working with both a repair certifier and an LVV certifier in co-operation. With a car of that age (over 20 years of age), you can do an engine transplant before going through road compliance, as it is a car that doesn't need to meet exhaust gas emissions. This wouldn't be true if you were talking a 2003 car though, as it needs to meet exhaust emission standards, to be road complied. Get in touch with a 1D category certifier ASAP, and talk through your scenario. Then get the repair and LVV certifier to agree to a plan of attack before you start any of the chassis rail replacement. www.lvvta.org.nz/contact.html#certifieris our certifier list.

Thanks for the Reply. I'm not sure if it has been "flagged" as such, had this sticker in the car when it arrived: I haven't taken it to a entry certifier yet.

Second line of the sticker says "this vehicle has been flagged"
