hi guys
tried to find the info online but can't,
rather than using adapters on my front diff to match rear diff width (185 surf with solid axle swap, hilux/78 series prado front diff and 90 series prado rear diff (same as the 185 surf rear diff but has disc brakes instead)) I was thinking about different off set rims front to rear. I presume that's ok?
thinking adapters are more likely to break off road.
and I can't find if you can have different diameter rims front to rear, I know some hot rods etc do but everything I've read talks about being the same on 'an axle', not both axles. how does it work with a cert? if I had 15" rims on the front and 16" rims on the rear (I already have 2 sets of 35" wheels, 1 set on 15s and other 16s (quite different off sets)) would it be printed on the cert plate 15" front 16" rear or what?
I understand a vehicle can be certed for 2 different diameter rims, I presume by swapping sets while being certified? can you then have 1 diameter front and other rear or vice versa? or all 4 wheels of either?
also is the rim width recorded on the paper work at cert time? or tyre size? 1 set is 315 75 16 and other 35 12.5 15, essentially the same, both mixed belt tubeless radials of different breeds and tread pattern.
I will have an off road set of wheels as well but would be easier if they were all same diameter rims (already got the 16" internal beadlocks) but different off set front to back, annoying but prefer not to use adapters.
thoughts? just trying to use what I already have.
cheers andrew

Hi Andrew, Yes, you may use different size and offset wheels front to rear. Keep in mind that most hot rods aren’t 4wd, so you’ll want to make sure your rolling diameters are the same to not end up with drivetrain issues.
Vehicle can be certified on two different sets of rims, and swap between those sets. Mixing between the two (i.e certing on 15s and 16s, then running a combo of both) is technically not as the vehicle was certified, unless you got it certified with this combo also.
Rim width and tyre size is recorded at the time of certification.
Hopefully this all helps. My thought would be to get it certed on both the 15s and 16s and run with either set.

hi todd
thanks for that.
thought that might be the case, was hoping to avoid adapters but looks like i'll have to use them on the front diff.
