Hi there.
A couple of questions if I may about what is required in terms of having a gel battery and fuel pumps/surge tanks sharing the same space in the spare wheel well in an HZ Kingswood Station Wagon.
Apart from making sure the battery is sealed away and vented I also have the external battery isolater switch, fusible links and a relay in there do these need to be sealed away also?
I understand I need to make sure the cavity is free draining , ventilated and isolated from the cabin space are there any rules about how heavy duty the isolation from the cabin space needs to be obviously I still need easy access to the space so I dont want it to be like fort knox but am also aware that a foam seal and the factory mdf cover probably isnt quite up to scratch I would appreciate any thoughts.
Cheers Chris

Cheers Chris Hi Chris Chapter 10 from the Car Construction Manual has what you need - www.lvvta.org.nz/shop/chapter-10-fuel-systems/From the information provided, there are a couple of key bits of information you should know. In section 2.1, a surge tank is treated the same as a fuel tank and in section 9.3, this applies to all potential ignition sources, not just the battery. Additionally a fuel isolation bulkhead needs to be fuel resistant and vapour-proof to the cabin interior. Chapter 10 - Section 2.1 A fuel tank and its related fuel system components may be located within the boot or passenger compartment of a low volume vehicle, provided that the requirements specified in 10.4 and 10.5 are met.
Chapter 10 - Section 9.3 A battery fitted to a low volume vehicle that is located in the same compartment as the fuel tank or fuel pump, must be enclosed within a secured fuel-resistant non-conductive container.
As always, your certifier will be the best source of information specific to your vehicle and it is best to keep them in the loop with anything not so straight-forward before you spend time and money on a modification. Regards Chris - also :-)
