Hi, I am looking to replace the factory stamped-steel torque arm on my 1984 Trans Am with an adjustable tubular unit from UMI the US. (Spohn also make these.) It attaches using the existing mounting points from factory. I am also considering a set of adjustable shocks, and springs which would lower the car by approx. 1 inch. Current tyre/wheel combo is 15x7 on 235/60R15, this would change to no larger than 18x8 on 255 section tyres. Would any of this require cert? Link to torque arm with photos of install - umiperformance.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=6_93&products_id=131Thanks Craig

However to answer your question, the replacement (adjustable) torque arm does require certification as it can affect the manner in which the suspension behaves and the kit also includes an aftermarket crossmember which also crosses the certification threshold. The wheels and tyres should not require certification providing the rolling diameter is within 5% or the offset is extreme and also the spring and shock replacement should not require certification either, providing they meet the requirements in the threshold document. However, if there is any modification that crosses the threshold to require cert then all modifications from OE are required to be inspected and documented as part of the certification process. If you wish to see a copy of threshold items then take a read through this document - if it is not listed in this document then it requires certification. lvvta.org.nz/documents/suplementary_information/LVVTA_LVV_Cert_Threshold.pdfHopefully that helps and let me know if you have any further questions. Cheers Chris

Hi Chris,
Thanks for the quick response.
Sorry, should have clarified - they will not be coilover, they will be separate items. Am looking at Koni Yellow Sport series with on-car adjustment with springs to suit.
Tyre/rim changes will be as close as possible to factory rolling circumference and offset to retain correct gearing etc.
I may just change the bushing in the factory torque arm then!
Thanks Craig
