Hey guys,
Just wondering, if a car is fitted with front factory sway bar, and part of the cert if for modifying/lowering the suspension, does the sway bar have to remain? Thanks so much, and merry xmas! Slim

Hi Slim
It is not considered good practice to remove a sway bar but there are no requirements around removal of a sway bar for a certified vehicle (only for adding a sway bar).
If you did remove a sway bar then the certifier would need to be satisfied on a road-test that the vehicle maintained stability during cornering, slalom-type turning, and during a combination of braking and turning, including over uneven road surfaces.
Merry Xmas and have a safe New Year.

Thanks Chris, Am I correct in reading, it is also a certification requirement if increasing sway bar size? ie going from a 1/2" diameter OE size to 3/4" aftermarket ?
Thanks again, and merry xmas also !!

Thanks again, and merry xmas also !! Slim Heya Slim Apologies for the late reply, we have been shut down for Xmas and New Years, but we are back now and into it. A replacement or upgraded sway-bar does not require certification providing the sway-bar is attached to unmodified OE mounting points and there is no cutting, heating, or welding to the vehicle structure or suspension components involved. Obviously there must be sufficient clearance to the wheels and tyres when turned lock to lock through the entire range of suspension travel. Cheers Chris
