Hi there cupla questions 1/ would this kit from Castlemaine rod shop be okay to use? www.rodshop.com.au/hd-hr-power-steering.html This is a new product for them, there other systems use a cut down rack which i was lead to believe are no go in NZ 2/ i recently changed transmissions in my 81 chev pickup from a TH350 mid length to a TH400 short shaft it uses the same driveshaft and crossmember except the crossmember has moved back 5 inches to the next set of factory holes does this need a cert? its all factory stock(other than a pre 1990 RH drive conversion) no cutting welding or drilling involved thanks and keep up the good work! Aaron

Hi Aaron,
I've checked with our hot rod guy here, and he is not familiar with the rack on the link supplied. So we'd need to know more about the construction.
From our Threshold, I don't believe this would fall into needing an LVV cert.

Don't forget driveshaft safety loops!
Keep an eye out for clearance between your exhaust, and any wiring, or brake components. Unless there's a good gap, heat shield things.
If you can't get a really good set of brakes under the front wheels, make sure the ute has a really loud horn.

roughly 1500 kilos & 300+ hp emailed those guys like 3 days ago via ebay and there website,no reply, why is it so hard for some companies to actually do business? ive looked into the "Rods by Reid" front end and the cost is excessive in my mind, would be ok if i was building a $70k Hot Rod

That looks like it exceeds the recipe in the Car Construction Manual for that sort of weight vehicle.
There's a lot of "you get what you pay for" though. If you look at the bump-steer figures we're seeing from the Rods by Reid front ends, they're really good.

Definitely check to ensure that there's no welding internally. With a steering rack in RHD, sourced from a LHD country we have found welded internals before.

Maybe go back to them on email (or even to unisteer) with that photo, and ask if the rack is welded internally.

ok,so if theres no welded internal components it should be good? and the rest of the kit should be ok in the way it mounts etc? making sure bump steer and all is correct? I havent talked to a certifier yet just making sure what i want to do is feasible. Also Leon i quizzed these guys on this rodtech.com.au/index.php?route=product/product&path=75&product_id=640 and they replied " Hi Aaron Thanks for your enquiry Unfortunately the Low Volume Vehicle guys over there don't recognise our engineering 'TYPE' approval As a result they won't rego our assy's Regards rod collins " whats the story there?
