Shorten and weld axle or half-shaft?

Hi guys, just wondering if its legal to shorten and re-weld an axle?

I need a shorter one for my engine conversion >:(

Yes, you are able to have an axle or half-shaft welded, however this must be done by a person who is a recognized industry specialist in the field of drive-shaft modification and manufacturing, or meets the welding requirements specified for critical function components in 18.9 of ‘Chapter 18 - Attachment Systems’ in the NZ Hobby Car Technical Manual.
