Hey there, quick question about mounting the fuel tank in my boot Have got a 40ltr alloy fuel cell, the boot has been modified to have a tub (about 150mm deep) which the fuel cell sits inside snug. Question is about the mounting I have 4 M8 threaded Alloy bosses welded onto the tank at each corner/side and will weld 4 brackets to the floor/box section and secure it in place with 4xM8 high tensile bolts. Is this up to cert standard? the tank sits flush on the floor and the sides so its really just to stop it from going upwards (in case of a crash) Also is it ok to weld a bracket onto the tank to mount the fuel pump off it? If you need a picture so its easier to understand just let me know Thanks Mark

Hi Mark
The HCTM states that the attachment of a fuel tank to a vehicle structure uses components and materials that are equivalent to or greater than that used by a production vehicle using a similar tank location and capacity. As it's only a 40 litre tank, four 8mm bolts should be fine.
The HCTM also clarifies why;
The attachment system should be able to hold, as a guide, 20 times the filled tank’s weight, to ensure the tank remains fixed in the vehicle during an impact.
There's nothing saying that you can't fir the pump directly onto the tank, but this may create a noise or vibration issue.
There are also other requirements applicable to a fuel tank mounted in a boot compartment - I recommend you get a copy of the Hobby Car Technical Manual so that nothing is missed.
I hope this helps.
