Hi Jaguar Providing there are no other modifications that are above threshold, then a campervan or motorhome does not require certification for the campervan conversion if... there is evidence of certification of the modification from the company that carried out the modification, ie a secondary certification plate or label in the case of a motorhome conversion ( see Technical bulletin 13) or the conversion was completed before 1/3/1999, a WoF inspector can accept authentic evidence of this to verify the modifications were carried out before this date some examples are an invoice from the company that carried out the modification, insurance policy cover notes from prior to 1/3/1999, motoring magazine articles provided they record the vehicles registration number or VIN and the modification details, documents such as statements from previous owners are not acceptable or the conversion was completed on or after 1/3/1999, and no modifications were carried out to the cab rear wall, and modifications to the roof meet the following requirements: only a single panel of sheet metal may be cut per roof opening, and any bracing or structural elements have not been modified, and no modifications are within 150mm of a seatbelt anchorage; and no seats or seatbelt anchorages were retrofitted, Hope that helps Chris

Hi, I feel you have left out the important note that states
"Note: This means that a campervan conversion completed on or after 1/3/1999, other than a camper box fitted to an unmodified cab and chassis, always requires LVV certification." I have very recently been failed by VTNZ for a Cab cut done in 2000 by Coach Kraft (who no longer exist) which has been Issued with WOF's for 20 years but now needs an LVVT cert. I cannot find out if the the regulations changed after my vehicle was modified and why was the date 1/3/99 chosen? The LVV certifier I have visited had no idea about the problems around the LT400 regulations and stated that he would have to go around the whole vehicle checking for any uncertified modifications (chassis extensions, etc) I am having trouble finding a certifier around where I live

Regards Chris

Hi Chris, I feel you misunderstood my post, I now know my vehicle does not have an LVV cert (I did not know it needed one before) I do not understand how it could have obtained a WOF for 20 years without anybody picking it up unless the LVVTA changed the Thresholds after it was built I would have expected the LVVTA would have been following the NZTA conclusions regarding LT400 and their decision to give all vehicles a 5 year exemption and would have extended the same to vehicles they cover
Regards
Peter

But the WoF threshold regarding camper conversions has been in place for many years, you have been unlucky or lucky (take your pick) not to have had this modification picked up in the last 23 years. However this does not change the fact that your vehicle will require certification, and as yet NZTA has not granted any exemptions or extensions to this threshold. Regards Chris
