I'm looking into registering one of my cars the registration is currently canceled my question is; I know you don't need to get cert when you change your cars engine to a less powerful less displacement version of the cars original engine, but will it matter when you are registering it from having a canceled reg? I'm my situation my car was originally a z20e (two litre fuel injected engine) and the engine I'm looking into using for now whilst I'm getting the car back on the road is a Z18 (1.8 litre carbed.) www.carjam.co.nz/car/?plate=oe6090cheers -Mike

Hi Mike - this should make no difference and should go through no problem, so long as it fits within the threshold table in the VIRM.
To be sure, you'd be best to ask an NZTA appointed entry compliance specialist, or a TSDA.
They MAY change the CC rating details in LANDATA (the national database of vehicle information) which could cause problems at a later date if you decide to re-fit the larger engine.

The VIRM may catch you out, it requires the same ancillary equipment which includes throttle cable etc. You might sneak through but they should fail you on the swap from injected to carb.

Thanks for your addition Callum, and yes you're quite right about the current wording. This is something we're working on improving though, along with various other threshold items.
Stay tuned....
