Hi there. 1st post, be gentle I have a car on the boat from Japan that should have an airbag steeringwheel but photos show its been fitted with an aftermarket non SRS wheel. Can this be LVV certified prior to compliance, if at all? Car is 2001 HP12 Primera if that matters. cheers Andy

Hi Andy
Air bag removal can only be LVV Certified if the vehicle has reached 14 years of age or older. If the vehicle is younger than this it is required to have the air bags in operating condition to comply with the Land Transport Rule: Frontal Impact 2001. The vehicle you are importing is a 2001 model and cannot be complied without the air bag steering wheel being reinstalled and the system checked to ensure it is functioning correctly.
Cheers
Kendall

Thanks Kendall. That's great to have this confirmed. I have a factory SRS wheel on the way as I suspected as much. I have my eyes on a Nissan Sylvia for track use and a now I know if I purchased a 14yr or older one with an airbag I could remove that and remain road legal too.
Thanks.
Andy

HELLO Thanks for that so from what i gather from this you are allowed to remove a air bag steering wheel as long as (part A or B applies to you? In my case id like to fit a aftermarket steering wheel to my 1995 s14 so to me all need to do is remove airbag steering wheel and putting in aftermarket steering wheel) is there anything else or some info I've missed?
Thanks Keegan
