I am looking at a electric brake controller which uses brake pressure to modulate the braking force to the electric brakes on my trailer and I have a couple of questions.
The controller has a pressure sensor that tees into the front brake line by unscrewing the front brake line at the master cylinder and screwing in a inverted flare tee into the master cylinder and then screwing the brake pipe into the tee. there is no modification to the master cylinder or the brake line. the pressure sensor then screws into the tee with a 1/4 npt tread.
My questions are 1) the wof manual states that any modification that affects performance of the braking system requires certification, but the Lvvta brake standard states "any" modification to the brake system requires certification. As this does not affect the performance of the towing vehicle brake system does it require certification as per Brake standard or does the Wof manual override this because it does not affect braking performance.
2) Are you allow 1/4 npt threads on fittings, the bake standard only specifies pipes and hoses?? Thanks for you help Nathen

Hi Nathen
From the info you've given us, this t-piece and sensor won't need certification.
From a safety point of view, we suggest that you ensure that high quality automotive parts are used throughout the installation.
Cheers, Justin
