I was wondering if you could provide any insight into the SIV, I know the whole process etc, and how the applications work etc 200 per year, what I'm wondering is what actually happens if say you sell the vehicle within that 4 years, will a letter be sent out that the car is being deregistered or whats the story?

Hi sleepn SIV approvals aren't LVVTA's area, so your first question should be directed to NZTA. You can call the help desk on 0800 699 000 and they will put you through to the relevant person. Alternatively you can go to www.nzta.govt.nz/resources/factsheets/44b/special-interest-vehicles.html for more info. Your second question would depend on the mods, and what was required to return a vehicle to standard. Often, once a car is modified it requires 'further' modification to return it to standard, so each case needs to be taken on it's merit. If you've got some actual examples feel free to ask, otherwise it may be better to contact Motorsport NZ or an LVV Certifier directly. Cheers, Justin
