Hi Justin. Three questions.
1. Is there are broad rule about what can or can't be chrome plated?
2. I am chrome plating my Jag rear. Do the axles, hubs, wishbones need to be heat treated and a document supplied to evidence the fact?
3. Can steering arms and stub axles be chromed?
Cheers

Hi jayncee
There's no hard and fast rule here, but generally speaking if it's mild steel, chroming (or any electroplating process) is no problem.
Things can get more complicated when high carbon or hardened steels are electroplated, as hydrogen embrittlement becomes much more likely, meaning a post heat treatment is necessary.
If you're unsure what the material is that you're wanting to chrome, a metallurgist can be used to find the carbon content or material composition - one suggestion is South Auckland Forgings (SAFE) who can provide this service.
I hope this helps
Justin
