Hi I am building a Lotus 23 replica and the design of the brake pedal uses tube, not flat steel. I know a flat steel pedal should be 8mm thick, but is there a requirement for tubular construction? Picture attached of original design. Thanks Patrick Attachments:

Hi Patrick The Hobby Car Technical Manual requires that a brake pedal fitted to a low volume vehicle is constructed from a single piece of material, except for: (a) the footplate; or (b) the attachment of a boss or sleeved end of a pendulum design that, upon the failure of the attaching weld, would still enable the pedal to actuate the master cylinder. Your pedal design appears to be fabricated from tube sections attached by welding. This design would not enable the pedal to actuate the master cylinder should the welds fail. As this design does not meet the minimum requirements, the design would need to be approved by the LVVTA Technical Advisory Committee, however it is unlikely that a pedal design such as this could be approved. If you would like to apply, this approval process can be done via the 'Build Approval Process', in chapter 4 of the NZ Hobby Car Technical Manual - this approval application can be downloaded here www.lvvta.org.nz/documents/suplementary_information/Form_4B_Design_Approval_Application.pdfIf you have any questions or need any help with this application feel free to email us at tech@lvvta.org.nz.
