Hey guys.
I'm searching for a 50's Chev truck, one of the options would be importing from the states. If it goes this way most likely I would put the body on an HQ chassis. So my question is, what documentation will I need for the body (if that's all I import)? I'm guessing if I import a body and chassis it would be the same as importing a complete car?
Also if I find a body here, what documentation do I need for that to put it onto an HQ chassis?
Ideally I would like an original chassis, but this may not be the case.
Cheers Ben

Hi Ben If you're putting this body onto an HQ chassis, it will become a scratch-built vehicle. This means it will be registered as a brand new car, and so will not require any documentation. If you import a complete body and chassis, then yes you're correct, you'll need all of the applicable documentation that you'd need to import a complete car. The details on this documentation is available from NZTA's website - www.nzta.govt.nz. Cheers, Justin

Cheers Justin. So a scratch built vehicle, Ive heard interesting stories about doing this, Something along the lines of them needing to comply with the current regulations of how cars are built, can you clarify any of this? Sorry I haven't got a hobby car manual yet Is fabricating a whole new chassis an option as well? Ive heard the front geometry needs to be submitted to the TAC? does using a factory style geometry mounting and maybe arms (eg hilux, HQ) make this not necessary?
