Hi there
I did a search for this but couldn't find anything. I'm about halfway through an LS1-into-VS Commodore conversion, and was hoping I could get some clarification around section 2.5 of the LVVTA Standard 90-10(01) - Exhaust Gas Emissions. Or in other words, do I have to run catalytic converters?
Section 2.5(1) says that cats are required if the vehicle was manufactured after 1/1/1990, and the vehicle was first registered in NZ after 1/5/2010. My car was built after 1990, but was first registered before 2010 - does that mean I'm not required to run cats?
cheers Brian

Hi Brian That is correct - this requirement only applies to vehicles first registered in NZ after 1/5/2010. So in your case, you don't have to fit cats to your vehicle. Here is the exact wording from the LVV Standard ( www.lvvta.org.nz/documents/standards/LVVTA_STD_Exhaust_Gas_Emissions.pdf ): 2.5 Catalytic converters Modified production low volume vehicles that are required to be fitted with catalytic converters 2.5(1) A modified production low volume vehicle that has undergone an engine conversion, other than one to which 2.5(3) to 2.5(6) applies, is required to have its exhaust gases directed through one or more catalytic converters, if: (a) the vehicle was manufactured after 1 January 1990; and (b) the vehicle was first registered in New Zealand after 1 May 2010; and (c) the retro‐fitted engine was originally manufactured in either: (i) the United States of America on or after 1 January 1975; or (ii) Europe or the United Kingdom on or after 1990; or (iii) Japan on or after 1 January 1985; or (iv) Australia on or after 1 January 1986. I hope this helps. Justin
