Hey guys, I'm currently adding a dry sump setup to my car and I'm struggling for space in the engine bay for the oil tank, I've done a lot of reading and have yet to find any rules on having this mounted in the passenger compartment of my car. Does this fall into the category as a fuel cell or surge tank? As my car is a lift back with no separate boot space will it need to be completely blocked off from the passenger compartment of my car?
Many thanks, Jeremy.

Hi Jeremy, From the Hobby Car Technical Manual 16.22 Dry-sump systems 16.22.1 A dry-sump oiling system tank and associated fittings and lines, if fitted in the passenger compartment of a low volume vehicle, must comply with the applicable safety requirements of Schedule A of the current MotorSport New Zealand Manual. So having a look in the MotorSport Manual it looks as though the following applies (2) Lines Located in the Cockpit: All lines may be routed through the cockpit although this is not recommended for lubricating oils and/or coolants. The following conditions apply: (a) Fuel and brake lines shall be appropriately rated, be metal (pure copper tube is not authorised for brake lines) or have a metal outer braiding and all joins shall be of a threaded or crimped industry quality type; and (b) Coolant and oil lines shall comply with the following conditions: (i) Be metal or have a metal outer braiding, and (ii) All joins shall have industry quality threaded connectors, and (iii) Have a minimum burst pressure of 70bar (1000psi), and (iv) Have a minimum peak operating temperature of 135°C (275°F) for coolant or 232°C (450°F) for oil, and (c) All lines shall be adequately located / shielded to avoid damage. Note: It is recommended to use threaded connectors where lines pass through bulkheads. www.motorsport.org.nz/sites/default/files/motorsport/manual/Live%2035%20App%202.01%20Sch%20A_0.pdf

Thanks Heaps Leon, I really must buy the manual. So it sounds like the only regs are on the lines to and from the tank and none of them are different to what I had planned.
Thanks again, Jeremy.
