Hi
I have a 1956 Chevrolet 3100 pickup, I am thinking about fitting a drop axle, or possibly having the original axle dropped.
Is there a way to identify a suitable supplier of dropped axles that would comply with lvvta?
Or is there an approved person who could drop my axle in New Zealand?
Regards Chris.

Hi Chris,
Assuming we're talking dropped i-beam here, there's two ways to go. If you get an aftermarket forged axle that is dropped by the manufacturer, then you simply provide your certifier the receipt to prove the manufacturer. Or if you buy an aftermarket cast dropped axle, then you send it to us here in Wellington, we check the nodularity, and issue the axle a number and a certificate.
The most common cast ones we see are Superbell and Magnum here at the office.
It might be worth talking to your certifier to see if he has any opinions one what ones he considers to the the good ones?
We're not sure if anyone is still dropping the OE axles these days.
