Hi I was hoping to get some info, ive had a good look and cant find anything. Ive been given an old jeep j20 that I plan on doing a full driveline restoration and paint etc, I understand there is a way of finding/obtaining information about a certification on it (was certified for a 350 chev, and also need to know if a couple of ideas would need certification, the only rust in it is the original steel fender flares and inner fenders. so question is can I fabricate new flares that are same width etc of originals, but of a different cross sectional shape I.e flat instead of curved, but with all edges folded so as to have no sharp edges, and can I fabricate fully customised inner fenders without certification as long as they attach to original points and clear tyres? and would a set of new aftermarket leaf springs all round that incorporate a 1.5-2 inch lift need certification? Hi Neil,
If it has been certified previously, we can track it down.
Email tech@lvvta.org.nz with the VIN number (or chassis # and number plate).
Not all of the old "declarations", which are the documents that existed before certification, were handed to LVVTA when the declarations were phased out. So we don't have a full record that encompasses all declarations.
Yes, you can fabricate new flares and inner fenders, so long as they meet NZTA's VIRM requirements.
Changing the leaf springs to raise the vehicle would require LVV cert according to the VIRM threshold.

Cheers for that although I cant workout the virm, guess when it comes time itll either do or need a cert, and ill just worry about suspension when I go to bigger tyres once its on the road
