Shortening brake booster input rod.

Hi all.

I have to shorten this shaft and was told that no welding was allowed.

I have since discovered that this might also be a no-go.

Is this a suitable no-weld solution for joining my booster rod?

Sleeve is 4340 and once you give the go-ahead i will pin both ends of the shaft with rollpins.

Under the sleve the two shaft ends are hard against one another so during braking the rollpins and sleve take SFA load.the sleve is a very snug fit.

I have since been told that "joining" the rod is not allowed (although fitment of a clevis or similar onto the end is) So worst case is I'll thread the shaft 1/2unf and screw on a female clevis.

In this situation can i machine my own clevis? (I'm a Turner by trade)

Good morning, the wording from the Hobby Car Technical Manual is as follows:

A brake pedal push-rod fitted to a low volume vehicle must:
(a) be manufactured from material of a diameter appropriate to
its length; and
(b) not incorporate any joins except for the attachment of end
fittings; and
(c) not incorporate any welding, except in the case of an
unmodified OE push-rod, which was carried out by the
original high volume vehicle manufacturer.

If you've got a big project going, it might be a good investment to get a copy of the Hobby Car Technical manual.

No, there's nothing stopping you making your own clevis.

I whipped this up today and will finish tomorrow- it's a much tidier solution anyway.
