Hi guys, I'm building an AE70 corolla with an sr20det in it, it's going to be a street/show car. I'm currently at the stage where I have purchased a new diff (hilux diff) to go into it, but the mounts need to be changed over onto the hilux one. Do those mounts have to be done by a certified/ticketed fabricator or do they just need to be clean welds? The subframe engine mounts have also been welded on previous to my purchasing the build, they look strong but I'm wondering whether I should have someone touch them up and certify them under their name? Is it that all structural fabrication has to be done by a certified fabricator maybe? Wanting to do it once and do it right so it passes through cert with no worries. Cheers

Sorry, for the delay, not sure how we missed this one.
You don't need to be a certified welder, but you do need to be a competent welder/show a decent level of welding ability. This applied for both the diff and engine mounts. For the engine mounts, make sure that they meet the requirements outlined in section 9 of the NZ Car Construction Manual. You'll need to check the exact wording/requirements, but there are a few simple mistakes commonly made, such as the area the mount is welded to not being plates etc. There was recently an example on our Facebook page of this, which could be worth a look.
Hope that helps. Todd
