Hi peoples, I was wondering if anyone knew who in Nelson has the ability to supervise the welding test laid out in the NZCCM? If you are talking about the general welding requirements in chapter 18. Then that is for your certifier to assess. Find a certifier who has the correct category to certify the modifications on your vehicle and you should be able to set up a time to demonstrate your welding competence for them If you mean another welding test then you will need to be more specific. Cheers Chris

www.lvvta.org.nz/documents/suplementary_information/LVVTA_Info_Tech_Bulletin5-Builders_welding_guide.pdfThe test is to be viewed by the person who would be certifying the vehicle? I need a 2b Category certifier the closest one's to Nelson are in Timaru or Wellington. 5 hours drive one way or 2 hours and a ferry trip the other. Is it not possible to gain the Welding approval by ANY certifyer catergory that deals with welded structures and/or components?? no matter what the vehical type is as the welders competency is being assessed?

There are 2 recognised methods to meet approval in the Attachment Systems chapter (18) of the Car Construction Manual (CCM) 18.7 General welding requirements 18.7.1 Welding used in any structural or safety-related application may only be carried out within a low volume vehicle provided that: (a) the welding is carried out by a person who either: (i) holds a relevant current qualification or trade certification for the type of welding undertaken; or (ii) has demonstrated to the Low Volume Vehicle Certifier, by application of an LVVTA-approved welding test procedure, a satisfactory level of competence in the method of welding undertaken; and (b) for the purpose of confirming compliance with 18.7.1(a), either: (i) a report is supplied by the person who carries out the welding to verify that the requirements of 18.7.1(a)(i) have been met; or (ii) the Low Volume Vehicle Certifier verifies that the requirements of 18.7.1(a)(ii) have been met.
I would recommend you purchase a copy of chapter 18 of the CCM to understand the welding requirements so you don't get caught out and at the very least get in contact with your chosen certifier to discuss your plans with them. They can discuss how best to meet the requirement. Chapter 18 of the CCM is available to purchase here www.lvvta.org.nz/shop/chapter-18-attachment-systems/
