Hi there, I was wondering if there was a ratio of material, or max dimensions of how much you can notch out of the chassis rail to let the exhaust thru? Im using 75x50x3, the notch will be on the 75mm side, and was thinking of using 5mm wall pipe to weld back in, and obviously plate each side with either 3mm, or 6mm plate to get the strength back in again, exhaust tube will be either 2.5" or 3" unsure yet, but need to get the exhaust up as high as i can, cheers.

Hi Dooga, I would suggest you do not notch your chassis rails for an exhaust. As you are already building an RHS chassis, you would be better to incorporate a route for the exhaust into your design. A c-notch is typically used for suspension and an engineering calculation is typically required to determine how much reinforcing would be required to reinstate the strength removed, but we do not specify that calculation in our standards. The standard for a c-notch in a production chassis is that the area of the chassis immediately adjacent to a suspension c-notch is that must be suitably reinforced in order to reinstate the strength and rigidity lost in that area of the chassis as a result of the modification. Whether that requirement is applicable for notching for an exhaust would probably be best to discuss with your certifier. Cheers Chris

Thanks for the reply, yea when i did the chassis, I was trying to do that, originally I wanted to run the exhaust on the left and right side of the chassis, but might have to run it down the middle, as not matter how I did the chassis it would have to pass thru it, thanks for clearing that up.
