The NZTA Warrant of Fitness and Certificate of Fitness manual, called the Vehicle Inspection Requirements Manual (VIRM), has been amended with changes that take effect 1st May 2020. Click on this link for the NZTA announcement and full details: vehicleinspection.nzta.govt.nz/news/april-virm-amendments-delayed-by-covid-19-now-live
The certification thresholds from the VIRM have been compiled into one convenient document - click this link: lvvta.org.nz/documents/suplementary_information/LVVTA_LVV_Cert_Threshold.pdf This document lists modifications that do not require certification provided that certain conditions are met and modifications that never require certification. If a modification is not identified in this threshold, then it is safe to assume it requires certification.
The main changes to the threshold are related to the following topics
>> Tyre and wheel fitment including protrusion of tyres beyond mudguards >> Springs and shock absorbers >> Items moved from the ‘certification never required’ to ‘certification not required provided that’ box >> Fuel system threshold more detailed >> Future treatment of utes with wide trays >> ‘Grandfather rights’ for vehicles re-entering the fleet >> Clarification around modifications to structure, and modifications that present a danger to pedestrians >> Steering wheels and attachment
If you require assistance with clarifying a requirement, then click on this link to contact LVVTA: lvvta.org.nz/contact.html
