I have 285/75R16 tyres as certified for. I want to change to 305/70r16 tyres. Same rolling circumference but slightly wider.
Does not have size on cert plate.
Will this require a re-cert?

Hiya Tom, providing the circumference does not change by more than 5% from the certified tyre size and the tyre size is compatible with the rim size Tyre to Rim Compatibility Guide, then you can change the tyre size without recertification. Also, then the tyre tread must remain covered by the factory mudguard, or if the vehicle has been certified for flares, then the tyre tread must remain covered by the guard and certified flare. It pays to note are potential issues when going to a wider tyre that will need to be considered. With the steering at full lock and throughout the full range of suspension travel, ensure that the tyre does not contact the steering or suspension or sway bar. The last thing you need is to fit tyres that rub and then fail come WoF time only to have to replace them again. Cheers Chris PS - Yes, you can print this email, and if the inspector has any issues then they are more than welcome to contact me to follow up and I can discuss with them. 04 238 4343.

Thanks Chris!
And what if the WOF checkers have an issue with the change in size if everything else complied with the rules you have outlined above?
Can I show them this as proof?
Cheers

Thanks Chris! And what if the WOF checkers have an issue with the change in size if everything else complied with the rules you have outlined above? Can I show them this as proof? Cheers Yes, providing the tyres comply with the rules, then from the information you have provided then they should be able to pass WoF. One thing I forgot to add in the reply above was tyres extending outside the guards. If you are changing tyre size, then the tyre tread needs to remain covered by the factory mudguard, or if the vehicle has been certified for flares, then the tyre must remain covered by the guard and certified flare. Yes, you can print this email, and if the inspector has any issues then they are more than welcome to contact me to follow up and I can discuss with them. 04 238 4343. Cheers Chris (I will edit my reply above to include this note for clarity)
