Hi all,
I'm looking at doing a rear-only disc brake conversion on my 1988 Ford LTD Crown Victoria. Currently 10 inch drums/ standard 8.8 Ford rear. Car is completely stock. Drums apparently cannot be machined due to stamped steel hub face mated to cast iron instead of all cast iron, aftermarket (read: made in China) replacements not much better going by recent experience.
The brake shop I went to seemed against the idea claiming "better performance from drums anyway" (not when they pulse/vibrate IMO) and that "you'll need a cert" (I know already).
Auckland area, never gone through the LVV process before so any thoughts/advice/recommendations would be hugely appreciated.
Cheers
Craig

Cheers Craig Hi Craig Have you looked at Rock Auto for brake replacement parts, they seem to be pretty good for parts. Alternatively if you want a brake upgrade you could look at Summit Racing or Jegs. Hopefully that helps. Chris

Hi Chris
Yes the replacement drums were from Rock.
So would I just buy the rotors, calipers etc from Jegs or wherever then simply get someone to fit them and fabricate where necessary then go to get it certified?
Or are there specific brake shops I need to go to first for cert work?
Cheers Craig

Cheers Craig Hi Craig You can do the work yourself providing you have the appropriate skills and follow the requirements of all applicable standards. The braking standard will help get you started - lvvta.org.nz/documents/standards/LVVTA_STD_Braking_Systems.pdfOf course it will need to be certified - I would show your certifier any fabricated parts prior to fitting them so you can make changes if necessary. Cheers Chris
