In the LVV certification threshold Schedule May 2020, under Vehicle structure section (3-1), it states Fiberglass replacement panels that are direct substitutes do not require lvv certification provided that: - No frontal impact components are removed (if required to comply)
- OE panels do not contribute to strength of vehicle structure
- Replacement panels use OE attachment points (hinges and latch in my case)
My questions are:
Would a bonnet count as a frontal impact component or contribute to vehicle structure?
If not, then what other issues might a DIY carbon fibre bonnet run into that might require a cert? It is an exact replica of the OEM bonnet and will interface with the existing hinges and latch.
Some more specifics in case it helps: The car is a Toyota Vitz RS 2011, model number NCP130. It is mainly for aesthetics but the weight reduction is a nice bonus. The latch and female fasteners will be epoxied onto the underside to line up exactly with OE bonnet threads and latch (using same bolts and hinges).
I have searched the forums and online but nothing pertaining to this exact question. Perhaps I am being too cautious but I appreciate your input and assistance.
Victor.
