Can I remove the catalytic convertors from a VE 2009 Commodore to allow for a rear mount turbo? Or would I need to refit them after the turbo to remain emissions legal?

Can I remove the catalytic convertors from a VE 2009 Commodore to allow for a rear mount turbo? Or would I need to refit them after the turbo to remain emissions legal? I am presuming your vehicle does not have a motorsport authority card, but the legislation says that any vehicle that was manufactured on or after 1 January 1990 and first registered in New Zealand on or after 1 May 2010, will fail a WoF if it has a catalytic converter removed where there is evidence that one was originally fitted. It can be passed if there is written evidence (issued by an entry certifier) that the vehicle passed a prescribed metered emissions test in this condition. In simple terms, if your Commodore was first registered in NZ after 1 May 2010 and came out with a catalytic converter, then it must either retain the catalytic converter or pass an emissions test (performed by an entry certifier like AA/VTNZ/VINZ etc) Hope that helps Cheers Chris

Thanks. I take it then because it was registered in NZ before 2010, it was registered in March 2008, I can remove them. Sorry, it is 2008, not a 2009 VE Commodore. Just need to get a bit more room around the front pipes.
