When reading the current published standard for Seat Anchors "Seats & Seat Anchorages 185-00(03) (2016)" there is absolutely nothing regarding the need to secure a fastener with a Nyloc nut, spring washer, split-pin or other vibration-proof locking device. This is the same standard we have been using and referring to for the last 3 years of low volume production of the same model vehicle (excess of 70 vehicles built now). Now I'm told a spring washer must be used to secure the M12 structural anchor bolts holding the seats to the floor? Feels like the goal posts are being moved . So what is highest.... the Standard of the Manual?

So what is highest.... the Standard of the Manual? Hi NZScout, The requirement for a vibration proof locking device comes from Chapter 18 - Attachment Systems. As the seat attachment is considered a critical function, it must meet requirement 18.2.1(b). We have recently reminded certifiers of this requirement after it was discovered during a crash investigation that a vehicle's seats had not used vibration proof fasteners. The fasteners came loose, and the seat detached as a result. Hopefully that helps. Chris
